Disc Problems
What is disc prolapse?
Disc problems occur when the spinal discs—soft, gel-like cushions between vertebrae—become damaged due to aging, injury, or excessive strain. These conditions can lead to pain, restricted movement, and nerve compression. Common types of disc issues include:
-
Herniated Disc (Slipped Disc): The inner gel of the disc leaks out, pressing on nerves.
-
Bulging Disc: The disc protrudes outward but remains intact.
-
Degenerative Disc Disease: Age-related wear and tear causes disc deterioration.
-
Thinning Discs: The disc loses hydration, leading to reduced cushioning.
Symptoms
-
Chronic Back or Neck Pain: Worsens with movement or prolonged sitting.
-
Sciatica (Radiating Pain): Pain extending down the arms or legs.
-
Numbness & Tingling: Especially in the hands, feet, or buttocks.
-
Muscle Weakness: Difficulty gripping objects, walking, or standing for long periods.
-
Limited Mobility: Trouble bending, twisting, or maintaining posture.
